Kathy's Story
When Kathy arrived at Harvest House, she had been living in her van for four months with her four children. She had been moving from state to state with no one willing or able to help her. Kathy tried to raise her children and educate them as best she could - their school transcripts showed they had been in 22 different schools during their short lives. In four months at the Harvest House, we were able to help her get on disability, find a new home and get her children into the Boonville public schools. Kathy still lives in the area in a home of her own and all four children have graduated from high school. One of her children went on to serve in the armed forces. What a great thing to save a family and provide hope where there is none!
Micah's Story
Micah was 16 years old when he shot and wounded a man who had shot his brother in gang violence in St. Louis. After serving time in prison, Micah was released when he was 27. He came to the Harvest House and quickly found a job washing dishes from 3 to 11 p.m. Even though the walk was more than three miles one way, Micah walked to and from work everyday for three months until he saved up enough for his own apartment. He then went to work at a local bakery, made and saved more money, bought a car and eventually his own home. It is amazing what a man can do with a second change.
